Nadie podía imaginar, ni en sus pronósticos más remotos, que el año 2020 fuera a ser uno de los más extraños que hemos pasado en las últimas décadas. Son varias las crisis que el tejido empresarial ha ido capeando a lo largo del último medio siglo pero todas tenían en común, en mayor o menor medida, que provenían del ámbito meramente económico. Sin embargo, esta vez el origen ha sido totalmente distinto, sanitario, pero nos ha hecho tomar consciencia de que las crisis pueden venir de otros ámbitos distinto al de los negocios y tener un tan contundente e inmediato efecto como el que hemos podido comprobar durante este ejercicio ya cerrado.
Muchas son las lecciones que podemos y debemos aprender de esta situación que ha afectado, casi simultáneamente, a todo el planeta. Pero hay una que ha aparecido de forma muy clara. La ciencia y, muy especialmente, la ciencia aplicada, la I+D+i, ha aparecido como el único y gran remedio a esta crisis sanitaria que lo ha sido también económica. Hemos tomado consciencia que no es la economía la que invierte en innovación sólo porque genera beneficios sino que, más allá, es la innovación la que mantiene viva a la economía, es decir, si no hay innovación no es posible una economía estable y, por tanto, un bienestar social. De esta forma, la gran lección que debemos haber aprendido es que invertir en I+D+i, tanto desde el ámbito público como desde el privado, es invertir en estabilidad económica, bienestar social, cohesión territorial y, en definitiva, asegurar que los grandes pilares que sustentan el desarrollo de las sociedades son suficientemente robustos.
Centrándonos en CETEM, este año también hemos comprobado la robustez de la institución. A pesar de la pandemia, se ha conseguido cerrar el año 2020 con unos buenos resultados aún cuando, durante los meses más duros, tuvimos que reenfocar nuestras actuaciones dirigiéndolas a las nuevas necesidades de las empresas. Muy destacable fue la labor realizada coordinando la fabricación de material sanitario por parte de nuestras empresas asociadas cuando había una total escasez en España, así como fabricando directamente material para nuestro sistema de salud lo cual vino a poner de relieve la importancia de instituciones como CETEM que “si no existieran, habría que inventarlas”.
El ejercicio 2021 empieza con muchas dudas, casi tantas como el anterior, pero con un sector del hábitat que se ha recuperado de una manera extraordinaria y que goza de una muy buena salud. Como siempre, CETEM seguirá siendo su gran aliado en innovación aplicada y en otros muchos asuntos para conseguir que, entre todos, sigamos avanzando haciendo un tejido empresarial más competitivo, eficiente, sostenible, conectado y responsable. Una vez más, seguro que lo lograremos y con nota.

Foreword
Nobody could imagine, even in their most remote forecasts, that the year 2020 was going to be one of the strangest we have passed in recent decades. There are several crises that the business fabric has weathered over the last half century but they all had in common, to a greater or lesser extent, that they came from the purely economic sphere. However, this time the origin has been totally different, sanitary, but it has made us aware that crises can come from other areas than business and have such a forceful and immediate effect as the one we have been able to verify during this exercise already closed.
There are many lessons that we can and must learn from this situation that has affected the entire planet almost simultaneously. But there is one that has appeared very clearly. Science and, especially, applied science, R + D + i, has appeared as the only great remedy to this health crisis, which has also been an economic one. We have become aware that it is not the economy that invests in innovation just because it generates benefits but that, beyond that, it is innovation that keeps the economy alive, that is, if there is no innovation, a stable economy is not possible and, therefore therefore, a social welfare. In this way, the great lesson that we must have learned is that investing in R & D & i, both from the public and private spheres, is to invest in economic stability, social well-being, territorial cohesion and, ultimately, ensure that The great pillars that sustain the development of societies are sufficiently robust.
Focusing on CETEM, this year we have also verified the robustness of the institution. Despite the pandemic, the year 2020 has been closed with good results even when, during the hardest months, we had to refocus our actions, directing them to the new needs of companies. Very remarkable was the work carried out coordinating the manufacture of sanitary material by our associated companies when there was a total shortage in Spain, as well as directly manufacturing material for our health system which came to highlight the importance of institutions such as CETEM that «If they did not exist, they would have to be invented.»
The year 2021 begins with many doubts, almost as many as the previous one, but with an habitat sector that has recovered in an extraordinary way and is in very good health. As always, CETEM will continue to be your great ally in applied innovation and in many other matters to ensure that, together, we continue to advance by making a more competitive, efficient, sustainable, connected and responsible business cluster Once again, we will surely succeed and with a very good calification.
